Parties who have ratified or acceded to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) may submit a formal request and designate a focal point.  NGOs and multilateral orgs must demonstrate mainstreaming experience and receive support from a CBD national focal point.

Key highlights from COP16

BMCG called into existence

A coalition of governments led by Mexico and Colombia formally launched the Biodiversity Mainstreaming Champions Group. 

Call for sector-wide mainstreaming

From COP16 came a strong call to action for the BMCG to support with embedding the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) across all economic sectors.

Global mechanisms to support the GBF

Essential global mechanisms to support the GBF were operationalized. These provide vital support for the BMCG’s ongoing work to deliver system-wide mainstreaming across member countries.
